I noticed this strange lesion on my leg last thurdsday. I went to the ER and the Dr. said it could be skin cancer . He didn't seem too concerned about it even commenting on how he had one removed too. He sent me home with a referral to a specialist and instructions that if it gets worst to follow up. He told me not to put anything on it just let it " declare itself" ! Well almost a week has passed and it still looks the same.If it doesn't get worst should I see the specialist?

pjn asked me via email if he could post a link to this picture. I have checked the link and it is safe.

pjn, I gave you my opinion in my email but for others to read I will repeat it. I am not a skin cancer specialist but the picture looks more like an insect bite that his become infected than any skin cancer pictures I have ever seen. Having said that, I really do think you should have it checked by a specialist. I also noticed a smaller lesion up your leg just about 5 inches or so. It has the same infected look.

Best wishes.

On closer examination of the image, a think I see an even smaller one just beyond the second one. I can also see some red trails leading away from the lesion. These are usually sings of an infected wound. I really think you go bit by a bug of some kind and I would have it checked out.

Thanks again for your help and letting me post my pic. I think it is starting to look like a bug bite.I am gonna see a specialist but since it looks like its starting to heal I think I will delay it a week. Best of luck to you brainman and everyone else on this wonderful forum.

pjn my motto on moles or any other irregular changes on your skin is when in doubt check it out. It doesn't look like your typical melanoma mole, but I would still check it out as soon as possible. I was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma in 1989. The day after my biopsy results came back I had emergency surgery the following day. Then I had to spend ten years at the University Melanoma Clinic. From what I was told that if I waited another two to three months before I got it checked and removed I would not be typing this reply. So get it checked to be safe. Good Luck!
