Hi,
I am a 29 year old man from London England looking for some help!
2 months ago I got married in Italy, joined by friends and family including my nan. Since then my nan (grandmother) has taken a fall, taking all the skin off her finger. From then she has developed jaundice and been diagnosed with Pancriatic Pancreatic Cancer.
Although she is 82 she has always been independant, living on her own, driving, and generally healthy. In the space of a month she has gone down hill in a large way, and I want to know what lies ahead. She has lost alot of weight and has had to have a stent to open the bile duct and I dont think the out look is good. Can anyone tell me what is coming up. Also this may sound silly but a few months ago I promised her that I would take her to Arsenals new stadium to see a match (big soccer team in England) and I want to know if she will be strong enough so she can live this dream.
Thankyou for your time.

Hello.

I am really sorry to hear about your nan. I would like to say that because of the aggressive nature of this type of cancer it is best to do as much as you can. It is impossible to put a time scale on it as it depends on each person. All I can say is that when the end is near it is usually mercifully quick, so spend time time doing the best you can. that is all we can do.

I hope that you make it to the match.

My thoughts are with you.

First off, I am so sorry to hear of your grandmother's diagnosis. With my mom, she was an extremely healthy 67 year old. Never smoked, drank and exercised daily. Never needed a nap in her life. She had more energy than I'll ever have. Her initial symptoms were that she was very tired and lost her energy and started having some abdominal pain in September 2006. By the end of October, she was sleeping a lot and was diagnosed in mid-November with Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer. At the end of November and throughout December, she just slept a ton (like 21 hours a day). She became extremely weakened and had no appetite. Her legs became swollen due to cancer that had in metastized in her liver and she would soak in an herbal bath which seemed to help. She only left the house to go to the doctor (she decided not to pursue chemo) around twice and then once for a haircut and once for dinner. She passed away on January 29, 2007. During the month of January, her sleep increased to about 22-23 hours a day and she barely ate anything. She developed a horrible cough (the cancer had also moved to her lungs). In her last week of life, she was bed-ridden 100% and lost her ability to speak or even move much. It still haunts me to this day and probably will for the rest of my life. Our only saving grace was that she was remarkably not in much pain.

If your grandmother has the energy now, don't wait - take her now to the places you would like to take her. Pancreatic cancer moves incredibly quickly.

Again, my prayers and thoughts are with you.
Jennifer
