Hi I'm new to the breast cancer forum. I was wondering if someone can answer my question. Has anyone had problems with working on chest muscles with tissue expanders in place? I heard from 3 people with breast implants that they physician did not recommend working chest muscles. However, my physician said it was okay. I'm not sure if the placement of breast implant and tissue expanders are different.

Hi,

I wish I could help but I had complications because of radiation and I had to have my expanders removed. It put my pectorial muscle in constant spasms for 24 hours and then, the expander on the cancer side was trying to push itself out near my sternum. The radiation wouldn't let the tissue stretch. I know that when it was through that it would work, my PS never mentioned exercising. I know you have to keep doing the arm lifting exercises to keep scar tissue from forming, but other then that, I don't know the pros and cons.

I'd check with your PS before doing anything to be sure.

Thank you for your response. I checked with my PS and he indicated that it shouldn't be a problem just don't fall flat on my chest. I am going through the final stages with expanding my tissue expanders and then radiation will commence. After radiation, surgery of permanent implants will take place.
