I am a red-headed, fair-skinned 44 year old male. Tons of sun exposure on the farm in my teens and I had a quarter-sized area of skin removed from my scalp 6 years ago due to basil cell carcinoma.

I've tried to be careful, but today got caught outside in lots of mid-day sun without a cap or sunscreen and badly burned my scalp under thinning hair. I realize I need to be more careful and prevent this from happening next time, but I was wondering if there is anything I should do to the burned scalp right now in order to possibly decrease the chances of another cancerous place arising.

I would say I have at least a first-degree burn (painful to touch) on my face and scalp.

Thanks.

Hi DeJarnett, I do not know of anything you can do to help decrease the chances of skin cancer. However, I do know of something you can do to help heal the skin burn... Aloe Vera products. They are readily available at your neighborhood X-Mart.

Best wishes.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the advice about Aloe Vera. I got some Aloe Vera gel and have been using it and it's doing a great job. I would expect that anything that is helping this much would also be good for the skin with regard to possibly avoiding more cancer.

Thanks for taking the time to post.
