Yes, the chemo could cause his stomach problems. I am sorry that they cannot use a lower dosage. However, it he has ruled out chemotherapy all together...
I continue to keep you and your father in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Tam, sorry to hear that all is not going well - is he going to get his stomach checked out? Hopefully they can make him feel better. It must be so hard for you to accept that he is not going to have any chemo. All I can say is - just love him. You know my love and support are with you.

Thankyou for thinking of us.
Not alot to report really. Dad has stopped all chemo and will not take it again.
He's starting to look a bit better and able to do a bit more now he's feeling better. How long this will last, who knows.
My Dad's sister suggested that he take Apricot Kernels. I've been researching it and they have high levels of vitamin B17 which many believe can help treat if not cure cancer.
As we have our apricots ready now, I'm saving the stones for him. We are certainly not pinning all our hopes on these apricot kernels, but since he's not taking any chemo surely it's not going to hurt, they are natural we have them in our own back yard, really at this stage we got nothing to lose.
Other than that, I guess time will tell with how Dad gets on without chemo. You never know, the radiation could have been enough. Then again, it could come back really quickly.
One thing I have learnt through all of this is no one can predict what will happen. Everyone is different, everyone has different outcomes, and cancer has a mind of it's own.

I haven't noticed any updates from you since before Christmas! I do hope your Dad's health is steady at the moment. How has he been since you introduced the "apricot kernels"? I would be very interested to hear any news from you.
I'm certain there are many on this forum who will be wondering how your Dad is doing.

Hi Tam,
I was reading through the forums and came across yours. I am so sorry to hear about your dad. My prayers and thoughts are with you, your dad and family. This is something thats so very hard to deal with. I hope you find the same comfort in this site as I have. Everyone here is grand and it takes away that alone feeling. I noticed you saying something about apricot kernels. How do you use that, I love eating apricots, but the kernels? I also noticed you never wrote anything for sometime. I do hope all is well on your end. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi all
It has been a while since I updated, I guess cause there wasn't much to update on.
We have had some good news in the last couple of weeks. Dad had a PET Scan which showed NO active cancer cells, which is fantastic considering that he stopped taking his chemo.
Dad hasn't been taking the apricot kernels, thinks it's a load of bull dust. His choice.
Anyway, he's still not able to do as much as he used to, but he has been fishing out in his boat the last couple of days, which is the first time since he's been sick nearly 9 months now. So he's pretty tired from doing that, but he enjoyed himself, and got a decent catch of whiting and crabs, which is the main thing.
He was a bit down and depressed I think leading up to the PET Scan, worried about the results, but since getting the good news he's got a new bounce in his step.
They are doing another MRI next month, they are keeping a close eye on it, as we all know, things can change very quickly.
I'll be sure to update when we get the results.

Hi Tamayles, glad to hear from you. And glad that you father is doing as well as he is.
Two comments:
1. Although I have heard of apricot kernels being used to treat cancers, I have not heard the them being used for brain cancers. But with a GBM IV, anything is worth a try. If he is tolerating this form of alternative treatment, good for him.
2. I have also never heard of a PET scan for a glioma. Was it a whole body scan? The reason it is not normally used is the gliomas do not metastasize to other parts of the body. Usually they use MRI scan to follow gliomas.
I am still thinking about and praying from your father.

They did an MRI first, but said that they couldn't tell exactly by looking at that because they thought that the radiation had caused a shadow on the results. So Dad had to go back to following week for the PET Scan which was apparently able to show exactly what parts of the tumor were left and said there were no active cancer cells there.
His next scan in April will be an MRI, I guess they will be able to tell if there is any difference from the first one then, and will know if there are any changes.
Beyond that explanation, I have no idea

Hi everyone
Just a quick update
Dad went and had an MRI yesterday, and again was given the all clear, no changes YAY!!!!!
They will do another one in about 2 months, they are keeping a very close eye on it, as we all know things can change very quickly.
But for now, he's enjoying getting back on the water in his boat fishing. He's been going out quite regularly, and my freezer is stocked with lovely fish again.
