I would like to get feedback from as many people as possible out there that are current cancer patients, survivors, family members, or have been touched by cancer.
I am in the process of building a new cancer center, and want it to truly be for the patients, by the patients. So in selecting a name, I want to know what people would like to see it named as. Here are two options:
1. Cancer Treatment & Support Center
2. Center for Hope & Healing
Which of the two do you prefer? Is there another word or phrase that you would prefer to see in the centers' name?
Thank you

I am not certain that this topic is even appropriate for the Cancer Forums. However, I will leave it for the time being but move in the The Lounge where almost anything cancer related can be discussed.
If this turns out to be an ad or fundraising, I will delete all of the thread. _________________ Jim

Thank you for not taking my question and poll off of this site. I am a director of cancer services in the midwest. I have been hired to build a new cancer center for a community based hospital. This is going to be my fifth new cancer center project, but this time I am being asked to do something new and exciting. Create a facility for patients by patients.
One of the things I need to get feedback on is the naming of the facility. A marketing group developed the first choice, I and the opinions of local cancer support groups developed the second, Center for Hope and Healing. I have been asked to get additional feed back and commentary. So I am posting this on some forums that are cancer related to get direct feedback from those that are dealing, have dealt, or have a family or loved one that has been affected by cancer.
I need everyone's help. The more responses, the better.
Thank you

Andrew, I guess we have more questions than name recommendations at this point A center for patients by patients sounds great! I think that I will have to differ my recommendation to the local support group. They know more about the mission of this new institution and the values of their own community. For example, how strong are the religious values in your community? "Hope" and "Healing" sound more like spiritual values than "Treatment" and "Support." If religion and/or spirituality are major influences in your mission and community values, then go with option 2. _________________ Jim

| If you go with option 2 how would anyone know that the place was specifically a Cancer treatment center? I'm a bit leary of your intent having to ask that question since it seems pretty obvioius. You actually paid some marketing firm to come up with this name? Un be - freakin lievable. I thought I heard it all... |

Here in the UK we have an organization called The Maggie Centres. They were started in Scotland, in memory of Maggie, and are slowly spreading through the country. They offer what your centre seems to be aiming to offer - support to and by cancer sufferers and their families. This is a link to them: http://tinyurl.com/32tsrd
I would agree you need to include the reference to Cancer, Support, and Treatment. "Center for Hope and Healing" seems too unfocused and could mean anything.
Is this to be a single centre, or are you planning further similar centres elsewhere? |
