I am starting this thread now for all of us to be able to express our feelings about our fathers apart from cancer.

I am also starting this thread specifically this afternoon because Saturday afternoons where the time we spent the most time together. We listened to the broadcast of the opera on NPR. I would usually take him out shopping Saturday morning, we would eat at "Catfish Campus" (his favorite place), but we would always be home by 12:30 for the opera. Oh, we spent a lot of time together, but it was Saturday afternoons listening to the opera that we connected. We had so little else in common. Our beliefs where different. Our likes and dislikes often were a source of conflict during the last few years when we lived together. But I still miss him. I wish he had survived at least until around now. It would have been a joy to take Dad to see a live HD broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera earlier this spring. He would have liked that.

Thank you for making this. I really miss my dad. I lost him last July. Just a place to post I wish I had known last Father's Day what I knew a short time later. Just like all of us who have lost a dad to this big thing called cancer. But big point, make it count everyday every minute. Not just father's but with all of our families. Our moms, kids, neighbors and the weird lady at work make it a split second to cherish - for them to cherish. I hate to say it but I have spent a lot of time just going through the motions and not making life count. More like the moments count. I guess if anything good can happen from this is that I am doing my best to make it all matter a little more. To hold it all a little dearer and to reach out to others more.
Thank you again for giving me a place to say I really miss my daddy!
