Hi.
I am a 42 year old woman in excellent health (except I need to lose about 30 pounds) . However at the end of January I got a very low grade fever and slight sore throat, plus general fatigue. It's going around...and didn't concern me. But, something else happend that I will try to explain:
I was laying on my stomach in bed getting ready to go to sleep and it felt like there were little "lima bean" shaped things filling up with fluid right near my diaphragm (sp???). What it created was what could look like a fat roll but instead it is like a roll of fluid. It's very localized. Just this "roll" of fluid at the base of my rib cage. I had an ultrasound and all my organs (kidneys, gall bladder, liver) look fine. Also had a chest x-ray which looks fine too. I haven't ever had a mammogram, however. I've also started getting random "sore spots" ~ one on the top of my head, one on my side....They feel like bruises, but they're not and they come and go.
My question is, does this kind of localized swelling or fluid sound familiar to anyone? My doctor has no idea what it is, but she said if it's still there in a week to come back.
I never even get a cold ~ so this is very odd...Look forward to your replies. _________________ This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps 118:24) |

Rebecca,
Thanks for posting. I also have no idea what this might be, as I have not examined you. But it sounds like you have had an evaluation for this done by a physician. Maybe the symptoms you described are not even related to one another.
One thing that I should mention is that at your age it is time to get a mammogram regardless of this.
best regards,

Thank you for your response. As I said, I have been extremely healthy and all of a sudden I know a lot of new medical terms.
As I continued to research, I came across the condition of "Liposarcoma." Interestingly, I have a new large lump on my ribcage which my doctor said is a lipoma.
I have no other symptoms except that whatever is in there is pressing on my stomach (which has decreased my appetite) and on my lungs and ribs.
So...what do you know about liposarcoma? Is a CT scan the best way to detect it? _________________ This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps 118:24) |

Rebecca,
Liposarcoma is a malignant tumor with fatty content. While it is possible, in no way one can establish this diagnosis without doing a biopsy. So a CT scan could suggest a malignant tumor if certain features were observed, but a specific diagnosis requires tissue examination.

| I would get another opinion from another MD being that they all have different experiences. If one doctor is not much help, gather your records and see another. |
