Dear All

My father has been newly diagnosed with PC (psa 10.5, gleason 8, T2c, 75 yo, excellent overall health). He's now on hormone therapy and radiation. My question is: what happens after this treatment? Just sit and wait for metastasis and (finally) death? Is there anything that someone can do to prevent or-at least-delay metastasis? Has anyone of you heard of Dr. Rath. He is German but now located in Holland, as probably the dutch law shows more tolerance to non-"orthodox" medicine. He's suggesting high-doses of supplements (mainly Vit C, L-lysine and L-proline) continuing the ideas and methods of L. Pauling. I've spoken with someone of his team and he told me that the beneficial result of these complex of vitamins and am. acids is the strengthening of the connective tissue, so that metastasis can be delayed. Has anyone of you experienced his methods? Any feedback or other thoughts are very welcome!

Thank you all in advance
Best luck to you and yours!

panargy,
There are things you can do without taking any extra supplements. Studies have shown a healthy diet low in fat and exercise can decrease the recurrence rate of colon and breast cancer by as much as 50%. Although this hasn't been done in prostate cancer, I'm sure it would help. Large supplements haven't always been beneficial, for example beta-carotene in the 80's. Large clinical trials actually showed increased rate of cancer among patients. So unless a well designed study has been done with those supplements, I would be cautious. Consider taking care of yourself as a priority. Good luck.
