My brother-in-law was diagnosed low-grade gastric MALT B-cell lymphoma last Chrismas. He is only 41 years old. 3/5 of his stomach was removed with surgery. He then used Rituximab for 4 weeks. At the end of January, some chyle was found near the left front pancreas and the liquid area was about 2.5x1.4mm. A duct was put in this area to introduce the liquid out. It disappeared after about 20 days. Then he has been ordered radiation treatment. After one month radiotherapy, it seems to be worse. The leaking chyle was observed again in the same area and the CT result showed rapid metabasis. The doctors are confused now. My sister is now very frustrated and depressed. I feel very helpless since I don't know how to comfort her.

I hope someone here can give me some advice. How to treat the lymphatic fistulas? Can this type of lymphoma be cured? In the worst case, how many years can my brother-in-law survive?

Any advice is highly appreciated!!!

Thanks a million!

Mission,
Low-grade lymphomas are difficult to treat because they are slow growing. The other side of the coin is that people tend to live longer because it's slow growing. A fistula is an abnormal connection from one organ to another. Cancer can help these form, but so can radiation or surgery. If your doctors are confused, consider a second opinion at a center that treats a lot of lymphoma. Good luck.
