long story ... back in late nov. 2006, my son (age 32) was having chest pain, thinking heart attack he went to the e.r. where they took xrays and a ct of the chest. they found a mass in the chest cavity the size of a soft ball and told him to go see his doctor. he got in to see his doc. about 1 week later and he said he needs a biopsy.about a week later he had a biopsy(a small incission in his chest was done). we waited 3 weeks and it was inconclusive so they sent it to the mayo clinic and we waited 3 more weeks, and it came back still inconclusive.so his doc. said they need to go in and crack open his chest plate and get a bigger piece of the mass. my son was in iuc for 5 days after the surgery. we than waited about 5 days and we got results...hodgkins lymphoma, which was suspected from the start, but a diagnosis had to be cofirmed to treat it. so now all the tests are being done. complete pulmonary function test, then bone marrow biopsy then muga test (heart) then ct of the abd. and he just had a port put in his chest. now again we wait. we go to see the oncologist on monday. and then we will set up chemo treatments. still at this point we are waiting to see what stage it's at. doc. thinks probably stage 2 .what comes next? my son is sick with flu-like symtoms and fevers(101-103) and soaking wet night sweats.we are both drained. of course my son more than me. its sooo hard being mom and not being able to make him better. is this the normal process? seems like so much time goes by and we wait in limbo.

Worriedmom: It is completely normal for you to worry and be tired. The waiting IS very hard and it can take it's toll on you and him. I felt the same way with my daughter. We spent 2 weeks in the hospital when all of this started doing testing and bone marrow aspirations and having her port put in and all that staging process. I told her oncologist at that time that the waiting and wondering was about to kill me. I felt like if we could ever get to the point of treatment then we would be working towards something. We did the chemo and it was hard on my daughter but we got through it and there were many times she did not want to keep on going but I told her she had too. My daughter is only 16 years old so it may be different with your son since he is older and understands better. We are now doing radiation therapy and after chemo she still has some cancer in her upper chest area. Hoping that radiation takes care of it - if not that means more chemo and radiation. So, don't even give it a second thought as to whether or not it is normal for you to be so worried and going stir crazy while waiting, it is a hard road to travel but together and with family and friends ya'll will get through it. If you ever want to talk just post or if you would like my e-mail I will be more than happy to give it to you. We will pray for your son and you that God will give you and him the strength to endure this time in ya'lls life.

Laurie
