Hello all,

I wish I found this forum sooner. My dad, who is 58 years old, was diagnosed with 9.6 PSA and had biopsy last week. He should be receiving results tomorrow, and the nervousness is killing me. I came over this forum while searching about PSA velocities on the net.

Now I realize nobody knows for sure until the results are in, but there are couple things I find odd about his tests.

In 2005 his PSA value was 0.9
In 2006, his PSA value was 0.6

Then, he switched his primary doctor and had the PSA test done again in 6 months from his last test in 2006, not even after a year.

So, 6 months after his last test, his value is 9.6.

Does anyone find it odd that PSA level jumped 9+ within six months? Is this even possible with cancer?

He had been working out a lot on the bike machine we have at home. His doc says that COULD have something to do with it, but of course, he doesn't know for sure.

Or it's just an aggressive cancer Sad

Both his primary doc and the urologist did the DRE and didn't feel anything. The urologist also did an ultrasound before doing the biopsy and said he's not seeing anything.

Am I being overly nervous? My dad is extremely self conscious about his health, I mean who's not? but he's the kind of person who can't seem to do anything other than worrying with slightest of abnormality.

Can anyone give any inputs? I'm not looking for anything specific. Don't know what to say..

Yes, elevated PSA can happen in a short time for several reasons including infection, inflamation, or PC.
Often the test &/or a "Free PSA" is done again in a few weeks when there's an unusual reading.

Most PC's are slow growing, but if a faster developing PC occurs, it's fortunate to find it early as some can become advanced within a fairly short timeframe if, for example they remain undetected for a year or more.

Hi....my husbands PSA rose quite quickly within a few months. He also had 1 biopsy the year before and nothing was found .. This time another biopsy and found cancer in 2 of sections. He was operated on last February and so far everything seems to be fine.. he goes every 6 mnths for PSA testing. I know you are worried just as I was but believe me it is better that they found it now and perhaps it is not cancer but if it is , he may have a lot of options open for him. Good luck and keep in touch
