I'm truly sorry if it is inappropriate to ask questions here if you have not yet had a diagnosis. I'm just seeking some information.

My history: I am 51 and have not missed any periods yet. I have had two episodes of bleeding between periods, one just spotting, one was as long as a period. I have uterine fibroids which press on my bladder but recently I am having insanely frequent urination with a strange and painful irritation feeling that has become much worse. I have been checked for a UTI by one doctor on NY Day because I had pain "somewhat" like a UTI on top of the other and started on an antibiotic while waiting for the urinalysis but it didn't fix it and no bacteria came back. The sharp UTI type pain went away but not the other.

I've since seen a new GP who found blood in my urine by dipstick. She seems sharp and is having me get an ultrasound (have to wait 3 weeks, ugh!) and will then send me to a gyn and says I will need to have a D&C and hysteroscope (which I'm assuming means an endometrial biopsy). She has sent the urine to the lab. After some research I understand that if there is cancer in the bladder that can be seen in a urinalysis but I don't know if she's having that done. I asked point blank if we should be checking for endometrial cancer and she said we have to look for the worst case scenario which is why she's saying D&C, etc. So she sounds on top of things.

Meanwhile my pain is constant and seems to feel worse on urinating, worse in certain positions, I'm going to the restroom every 5-10 minutes.

I guess I'm wanting to know if anyone has any advice to offer in hindsight from their own experience, things they would have asked or done differently. Is it common to wait 3 weeks before investigating by ultrasound or should I be trying to rush them? What questions to ask? The GP did do a pelvic exam and everything seemed normal in what you can see in a pelvic. I'm from the US and now live in Australia and I don't fully understand the system. Here they only do PAP tests every 2 years, so she didn't do another because it's been 1 1/2 years.

Again, sorry if this is out of line - and thanks if you have any advice to offer. I am so sorry for all of you whose results were positive for this disease and I wish each of you a full and complete recovery.

Holly
