Hi,
I am newly registered here and i just wanted to introduce myself.
I am a 19year old carer. I live with my nan who has terminal non-small cell lung cancer.
We first noticed something was wrong in October 2005 and she was diagnosed in January 2006. She went for an operation, which failed, and on April 3rd 2006 we were told she had only 6months left to live. they gave her a small dose of radiotherapy, just to releave the breathlessness.
i have always lived with her and so became one of her carers. she does have other family, and they all do thier own bits, but the nighttime stuff is left to me.
she is doing so well, i am so proud of her. she still manages to cook dinners and wash and normal daytime things. but as you can imagine, her breathing is pretty bad. she is on oxygen for about an hour a day and she also uses a nebilizer four times a day.
anyway, sorry i started to ramble there.

Sam, I am so sorry! You are so young yet have accepted a great responsibility. Taking care of someone with Cancer is not easy. I lived with my father for three years until he died of Leukemia complications. From personal experience, I know that I needed people who could give me support. It sounds like you have people you can turn to. And this forum is a good place just to “vent”. So, please, feel free to write as often or as much as you wish.
You and your nan will be in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

Hi Sam,
I am also new this site as well and I think it is good that we joined and can get some support.
I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you to have this responsibilty at such a young age. You are very strong person and I am sure this has been a very difficult time for you. I think as long as you are open to accepting help and support from your friends and family it will make this a bit easier for you.
Hang in there and keep us posted on how she is doing.
Take care
Eli |
