Hello. My name is Kathy. My son, Braden, is 5 years old. He does not have cancer, but he does have a rare blood disorder whose initials are ITP. In short, it makes him have a low platelet count. He has had this disease for almost 4 years and gets treated at our local hospital's childhood cancer clinic.

In addition to being Braden's mom, I am also a freelance writer. I have just gotten an assignment from a Christian parenting magazine called ParentLife to write an article about how families deal with having a child with a chronic health issue. I know I have RARELY seen anything in mainstream magazines that address the specific challenges that families face when having a chronically sick child.

I am looking for people who would like to share their experiences and be quoted in this article. Let me mention again that this is a Christian magazine and will be written from that perspective, but you do not have to be a Christian to respond. If you would like more information, please feel free to respond to this post or send me a PM.

My heart goes out to each one of you who have children with cancer. I walk into our cancer clinic every month with Braden and my heart breaks each time as I realize that we are one of the "lucky" ones with a blood disease instead.
