The Estring is good for 3 months at a time, so it seems that a number of women have ended up high and dry when they weren't expecting it, so to speak... Vagifem is an alternative, but just not as convenient. Sounds like somebody missed dotting an important i or crossing an important t with the FDA. When I asked the question about it I was hoping it wasn't due to another circumstance like the COX-2 inhibitors. Time will tell....
Thanks, Kristin! _________________ Dx Dec 2001 at age 50

You can call the drug company Pharmacia Upjohn to find out about the supply
I do not use e string...I use vagifem...this was an informed decision after consultation with 2 oncologist and it was a quality of life issue
My vaginal area was raw and bleeding, I could not be examined or have a vaginal ultra sound done due to infection...something had to be done.
When you are on arimidex, you may experience vaginal problems.... |

I read a thread a while back about this product. It was supposed to be available sometime in the early spring but I can't remember the reason for the shortage. I also think it is a US problem so maybe it can be ordered from a Canadian pharmacy.
Of course I have to add my two cents to the discussion. I have to agree with AlaskaAngel, that this is a very personal choice for many women. Quality of Life is as important to me as life itself. I am not in the position that I need this product but I'm not sure I would refuse it if it came down to giving up a wonderful fulfilling sex life with the person I love. |

Hey Angel... I know that this is an old post but I read it anyways as that I use pemarin cream. It really is the only thing that had worked for me and went through all those arguments between myself, my onc. my gyn etc. and we all felt comfortable eventually with that choice. I could not sell them on the E-String but this solution works for me. I totally agree with you and your choice. I know of many women who are survivors and use these products, in fact I learned about it and gathered the information to bring to my docs from another board and friends who have used them. So that said... if you still have not found it available perhaps you should write the company and ask your questions... I did that with emla cream when they took it off the market and they wrote back to me with answers. So good luck with the estring!
HUGS!

Hi Barbara,
This morning I had my visit with the OB-GYN to get a Pap and pelvic exam and to get her opinion on the choices that are out there. She is young but has been practicing for decades. She has no problem prescribing forms of estriol or with prescribing the E-string. I am currently prescribed the E-string by my internist by advice of my oncologist and am considering trying estriol "pills" (inserted vaginally) to see if the results are any different. I feel it is safe. Thanks for your comments too.
