I am a 2 time colorectal cancer survivor. i have had treatment starting this past december 2005 till may 2006, my dr. prescribed 5-fu...avastin..and eloxatin. my last treatment of the eloxatin was in march206 as I developed chronic neuropathy. in the hands, legs and feet. I just don't have the numbness but I sometimes I don't have control of my hands, or times i stumble when walking. My dr's have prescribed lyrica which I take 3 times a day, it helps some, but can honestly say not much.

Is there anyone that is or has experienced this side effect from this treatment? or have information on how sever can get, how long it takes to subside etc.?

any info will be appreciated. God Bless

I wanted to reply, but afraid I am not much help. After radiation and chemo I had leg pain and ended up at a Sports Medicine Doctor. His claim to fame was that he treated the NY Giants!! He said I was suffering from ciatica. Gave me some steriods and in three days I could do deep knee bends. Still get cramps and charlie horses once in a while but it has gotten much better.

I have been cancer free for 11 years and life will be forever different but still good!!!

I hope you got some answers and relief!! Take care and keep the faith.
Sincerely, Barbara

I'm afraid I'm not of any help either.. however, I was on oxciloplatin as well, and my oncologist asked (and still asks) me every time I saw him if I had numbness or loss of feeling etc... have you discussed this with your doc??? I finished my treatments 1 year ago and feel far better than last year (though not like before).

Hi

Thank You for the replies, My Oncologist always asked if iI had numbness etc. It seemed to get worse after I had stopped the oxaliplatin treatments, they did say could be up to a year till the side effects leave, it is now going on 5 months, My primary doctor has referred me to a nuerologist on the 17th of this month, so I am hopeful of him getting me some relief and answers.

My cancer is gone I am happy to say. I beat it a second time.. In the mean time I am living my life the best I can and keeping positive and staying strong!

God Bless all..Stay Strong!

Hi everyone,
Well hate to say it but the cancer is back, still in pelvic area 1 lymph node, then small growth on right uterer, where it was a year ago. Unfortunately the neuropathy I have mentioned in previous is still with me. It was 50% better, but since my new treatments it has been more intense. The treatment I was on before was 5-fu, Oxaliplatin, and avastin. The doctor discontinued the oxaliplatin this time because of the neuropathy and has me on comptasor in place of it along with the avastin and 5-fu. Well the nueropathy is intense again,so discontinued 5-fu. The nueropathy is not painful, it is a constant electrical current feeling and a slight numbess in hands, legs and feet.

Has anyone experienced this or knows of any relief? I am taking 150mg of Lyrica 3 x day, it takes the edge off but thats it.

Would appreciate if anyone has any info

May God Bless All!

Hi Anne,

Sorry to hear about your father. I understand being worried of what to expect. what has brought me through these treatments is the support and love from family and friends. Keeping positive, having strength and faith.
The side effects for me are minimal, fatigue, diahrrea I manage pretty well. People react differently. The results have been very good for me. I hope your father does well, I wish him the best along with you and your family.

Well Dad made it through week 1 no nausea, or diarrhea, one 5 minute finger on right hand tingle. He is very tired, has jaw pain but only the first couple of bites each time he eats. He has complained of lower back tightness and pain, but all in all He's hanging in there. He is 80 and my mom passed away in 1998 of colon cancer, so that's tough for him also.
