My uncle was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer ! What is this ?

I am new to this but I have alot of questions!! My uncle had been having stomach problems and could keep nothing down, they took him to the emergency room and they told him he had and irritated sphincter and a small spot on the upper part of his stomach that was cancer. They told us they were going to remove his whole stomach and everything would be fine, this was on July 27. The surgery was scheduled for August 1st and when the doctors came out they told us that there was a large tumor at the bottom of his stomach that was cancer and blocking his intestines, cancer in his pancreas and seeds on the back of his lungs.He now has a feeding tube and a drain tube. They said it was stage 4 and he could decide wether he wanted to do chemo or not.
His mother and sister both died of stomach cancer and he has chosen not to do chemo or radiation. The doctors told us that if he did treatments that he could have a life expectancy of a year but never said anything about if he did'nt????????? My aunt does not want to know the answer to this question but I do!!!!!!!!!!! I have read several of the posts but none seem to asnwer this question. I am a very spiritual person and I know GOD has a plan for everyone I am trying to be as optmistic as possible but I also need some kind of game plan. I just wondered if there is anyone that can give me some kind of time frame??? My other aunt has Lupus and she seems to think about 6 wks. to 3 months? I have no idea where she got those numbers but it seems like such a short time? Can anyone help??

Dear Tansia,
I am so sorry that you are all going through this. I can understand your uncle not wanting to have chemo or radiation. My husband, also stage 4, had 10 chemos and it was a most difficult year. To answer your question re life expectancy: It is very difficult to say -everyone being different - but my husband was told 5 months without treatment.

I am glad that you are a spiritual person as you will be able to give so much quiet love and comfort to your uncle and aunt. You understand that, in the coming months, your uncle will most likely become an even better man than he is now. Then he will have won against the cancer.
