More good news. Glad to hear it. Forget about both barrels - before long he'll be needing a semi automatic. Love to you both.

Dera Jenny and Larry
Hopefully today will be the day, if the tube comes out it will all be much better for Larry and one step nearer his own room. The girls and I are off to Salisbury today, but I will try and get to a computer to check on progress over the next few days.
All love to you both

Dear Jenny,
Perhaps ear plugs would help or white noise from the TV headphones? And please tell the ITU in-charge about the door. That is one thing that can be fixed quickly and simply. And don't be embarassed to tell the nurses to keep it down. But you are going to be in your own room very soon!
Love, Val. |

Wednesday 26th 9pm
Oh my god. It talks, it walks and boy does it have attitude – 37 days of pent-up frustration – let loose in a few hours. He was determined (and rightly so) to get the treachy pipe removed today.
Mid-day Mr H - always the gentle diplomat - explained that he’d like to leave it in until Friday, just in case of unforeseen complications, return of major infection, etc. But ultimately passed the final decision to Dr Patel. Oliver is the registrar on duty today and a gung-ho chap would not be my description – so supporting Mr H all the way – I shall not comment further on Oliver (but I eagerly await the return of Sergio) enough said.
Well at 6pm Dr Patel bounces in to ITU (I caught him at the main entrance and warned him that Larry was doing his Mike Tyson impressions). Larry was superb. 10 minutes of dialogue arguing his case for the removal of the Treachy. Hats off to Mr Patel by 6.30pm Larry had achieved his goal.
Other battles won today – Larry will go up-stairs on Friday (even if he needs additional nursing support). They will not be so stupid as to give him a diuretic at 10pm leaving him peeing through the night. He has also got Mr H to agree to him swilling and rinsing espresso coffee, fruit juice and other taste sensations.
Boy did this lot get the full force of an entire arsenal today (forget the semi automatic – he came out armed to the teeth – real Rambo stuff)
He’s still a bit hyper tonight and demanding hours of my time faffing with his IPod and Napster up-dates (this kind of technology is just not worth the grief! I am convinced that such technology does not save you time it simply redeploys it into an environment of utter frustration and insanity). I will give up at mid-night and if I have achieved nothing by then – well I could have gone to HMV and bought a million CD’s!!! Martin I may need your help tomorrow or the computer and IPod will have a close encounter with the pavement!
Oh well things are getting back to normal – computers, determination, winning by what-ever means. Thing couldn’t be better.
Catch up with you all tomorrow – planning on signing off and passing the reins to the Champ on Saturday if not sooner. I may have to pull another couple of cheesy childhood memories before I go – this is definitely light at the end of the tunnel – the train passed us by days ago.
Love to all. Thanks a million. xx _________________ Jenny |

Hi folks
Larry is galloping along at a pace (scaring the living day-lights out of Mr H but getting all the encouragement he needs from Sergio). He is swilling and spitting a whole range of taste sensations (I have told him not to tell mothers they will start cooking chicken soup again!!).
He is pushing himself with exercising and today I took him a set of small dumb-bells as an alternative to the bags of saline he’s been lifting. I have also taken him shorts and selection of Balinese shirts – he sits in his chair in ITU like some lost hippy surfer waiting for a wave and a ‘dark and stormy’. It will be a while before he can handle either!
Tomorrow they will give him a portable solution for the bucket attached to his chest-drain and he is schedule to move upstairs to the luxury of the 4th floor. Tonight they are changing his feeding regime – again to give him more freedom during the day.
He has a big goal for Sunday – if he can improve his balance then Sergio has offered to walk him up to Marylebone High Street. At the moment his muscle control is a way off and he moves like a new born foal – so there’s a lot to do between now and Sunday if he’s going to get his outing!
Keeping you posted – nice to have so much good news to report.
Love to you all. XX |

Hi Jenny,
WOW! What a time you've had and it's all good. If he makes Marlebone High, make sure he doesn't pass any Techie shops (did you get iPod sorted?).
Hope the move happens, that will mean sooooo much to mental well being.
Lots of Love

Friday 28th July 4pm
Larry remains in ITU much to his disgust and continued protestations. Mr H, Dr Patel and Sergio all want him monitored for another day – this is a no-win situation for Larry (no allies at this point).
They have however given him true mobility and with a combination of his new dandy handbag version of the chest drain, a change to feed regime and fluid intake – he now has 8 hours a day of roaming time. He has done five laps round the ITU ward, walked up and down a flight of stairs and totted off to the basement for an x-ray and ultrasound.
I shall return soon to spend some time with him as we both hope will be his last night in ITU (if they hold him back tomorrow – central London will not need to worry about power cuts – Larry will generate enough electricity for the entire national grid).
Will post again later.
