My Dad was diagnosed last THU with a polyp that was malignant in his rectum, not colon. I queried Mom to insure that the doctors used the terms "polyp" and "rectum", not colon. She said that they had indeed. Please assist me in doing some research on available treatment options. I understand that they are doing more lab work to identify the type of cancer. Thank you.

Hello

It is most likely rectal adenocarcinoma, but you have to look at the pathology report. Then it is important to see if everything was taken out or not. If everything was taken out there is usually no more treatment needed, but if not, or if the polyp is large, there are chances of needing surgery and perhaps even chemotherapy.
