My mother-in-law has been fighting breast cancer for 5.5 yrs. The cancer has spread to her liver, and heart. Nobody is sharing any information about what to expect or giving timetables (I think her husband knows more than he's sharing).

Just over the last week there has been significant changes in her presentation. When she stands she immediately turns yellow. Her abdomin, especially on the right side VERY swollen and hard. She on oxygen off and on. She says she sometimes has hallucinations and that is when she uses the oxygen. She was hospitalized last week for internal bleeding and was taken off of Cumidin (sp). They put in a filter to catch any blood clots. She seems aware of what is going on around her but I don't think she really believes she is as sick as she is. She said she eats only because she doesn't want a feeding tube.

I have never dealt with anyone dying of cancer like this before. What do I expect next and does anyone have any insight as to timelines when the disease has progressed this far?

Wanted to add more info. She is still taking chemo treatments (not sure what) She is on two different treatments once a week (4weeks on 2weeks off). She was previously on hormone treatments before this new round (she has only taken two of the new chemo treatments). She was told her cancer was active again in her liver approx 3 weeks ago

From March - present she has done very well and said she felt better than she had in years.

I know her cancer originated in the breast, (had mastectomy 13 yrs ago) Was rediagnosed w/mastesis 5.5 yrs ago (in bones, lungs) and has been fighting ever since.
