hello,

The right side of my neck tightened up and formed a knot (slightly above and to the right of my adam's appple) about 2 months ago. I went to the doctor and she couldn't find any symptoms for anything, so she said it was probably just a sinus infection (i had mucus running down the back of my throat as well). She gave me some antibiotics and the knot slowly got better.

However, that part of my neck still hurts if I press on it semi-firmly, and it feels like it's slightly bigger than the left side of the neck in the same area. It doesn't always bother me, but sometimes I suddenly feel it when I turn my neck to the left. I don't know if that's because of the carotid artery (is it bigger on the right side than the left?) or if it's because I may have something more serious like cancer?

hello, from what you are saying it sounds like the gland enlarged due to infection, ie cold, sinus trouble, good sign that it went down after infection, also good sign that it is painful. do you think that you are now worrying about it and are just very "aware that it is there " and proding it all the time will make it painful. if you can read my post in reply to grace above regarding my large non painful lymph node, this turned out to be nothing, i am sure that your will as well, i will tell you something though once you develop a health anxiety after a scare it is a bugger to get rid of and can ruin your life as i know from experience.

i have been ill for two years now and am awaiting a biopsy on an enlarged node. i have been told by many doctors that there is nothing wrong and it is all in my head, so now even my family believe this i feel hopeless and very scared/

Have you had a Pet or CT scan? If not, I recommend it. How did the doctor determine it's an infection? Did he/she take any tests? Personally, I not an expert, but I am proactive when it comes to my health. This is my second lump in my neck that appeared early this month. I immediately had a PET/CT scan to determine what it was and in my case, it was cancer. Consider a PET/CT scan to rule it out.
