My mom had a mastectomy in Oct. 2002 - tumor 2.5 w/ 18 of 19 nodes positive. She had a massive stroke in Jan. 2003 and brain mets in Oct. of 2003.

Mom has not had any problems with lymphedema, but has recently developed a lump about the size of my palm on her side just below her armpit. Her oncologist didn't think it was any thing to worry about, but we worry. The doc said it was not fluid and it feels solid and possibly attached to the skin.

If it's not cancer what could it be? Should we get a second opinion.

Hello

Maybe the oncologist thought that it would not change the course of things, since she already has metastatic disease to the brain. I am just thinking that that may be the case, just wondering. But you're right, she may have an axillary recurrence there. Obviously you're entitled to other doctors to evaluate her.

regards.

Leo,

Mom had a chest/pelvis CT, head MRI, and bone scan in late Sept. and they were all clean! Would it have been possible to see evidence of axillary recurrence on the CT?

Mom is cancer free at the moment (according to the recent tests), so shouldn't the oncologist at least determine whether or not this could be a recurrence?

Mom can't speak for herself since the stroke, so I do my best to ask the right questions.

Thanks - Tracy

Tracy

Sometimes it can be difficult to differentiate between scar tissue and a cancerous lesion. While having a clean CT in Sept is a good indication, a tumor may grow fast.

Leo
