Hello,
As a cancer survivor, I know how difficult the challenge can be when confronted with disease. When disease is combined with another tragedy it can be completely overwhelming. Hurricane Katrina has devastated the lives of many, but none have been affected more than the displaced cancer patients who now find themselves in Houston, TX. I was treated for Stage 4 Angio-Sarcoma at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston from 1992 to 1993. I was given a 10% chance to live 6 months. I know firsthand the quality of their staff and facility.
In order to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina Cancer Patients and Family Assistance Fund at M. D. Anderson, I have partnered with M.D. Anderson in riding my bicycle from San Francisco to Houston. My goal is to raise $20,000, and I still need plenty of help to make that a reality. This money is needed in order to provide critical care for cancer patients who have lost family, friends and a place to call home. M.D. Anderson has treated over 150 new patients since Katrina devastated New Orleans.
