Question I am a hairdresser in Glasgow and my mum has just started a 6 month course of chemo. Our product manufacturer has advised me not to use their colour during treatment, and for 6 months after the last dose. Does anyone know if this is possible to cover grey hair?

depending on the the chemo treatment (injection, pill, etc) the side effects are different.
I know some of the pills do NOT cause you to lose your hair, but with all the chemicals in your body from the chemo, I would be reluctant to apply anything to your Mom's hair
I know it's tempting to try anything to "lift the spirits" (a visit to the hairdresser always does it for me!) but I'd suggest something else...maybe a day at a spa? massage, sauna, manicure, etc...maybe even a new hairstyle, but I'd avoid any color changes
Just my opinion
How is your Mom doing? And YOU?

the treatment my mum is on is 5fu administered by injection. she has been told that she won't lose her hair but it possibly might thin.
she's doing ok, the lack of independance is getting to her more that the pain or nausea. I've heard that it might be possible to do vegetable dyes but don't know anything about them as we don't use them in the salon. any advice?

I just did a quick Google search and found this site:
http://www.hairscientists.org/hair-dyes.htm

what hit me was : some have been known to cause bladder cancer

I am certainly no expert on hair dyes but nothing seems to be safe.

Maybe the oncologist can give you some clear advice..but if it were me, I wouldn't try anything until getting more information.

Good luck..let us know what you learn
