My wife was diganosed with rectal cancer back in march. she has gone through pre op. radiation and chemo. the treatment apparently worked well, however the surgeon was not able to save the anus and she now has a colostomy. She is four weeks past surgury and the colostomy is just not working. She has be re hospitalised twice because nothing is happening with the colostomy. when she is given contrast die for ct scans every thing just empties. this gives her some relief for three or four days and then she's right back at square one. the surgeon says "everything looks fine, I don't understand why it's not working." he sends her home and we start all over again. To get to the point, has anyone else had this problem, what was done, and who should we be talking to?

you have my sympathy..I don't know where you are located, but Boston has exceptional resources.
We are experiencing horrific problems with my Dad's surgeon..wasn't until we got the oncologist involved that progress was made.
You need to make calls to specialists in your area..the internet is probably your best option..even the phone book. Regardless , time to go in another direction from the surgeon. If you need help, give me your location and I'll see what I can come up with. From expereience I know the last thing you need to worry about is one more thing to do

Thanks for your reply. We live outside Orlando Fl. That is where the surgury was done. She goes back to her oncologist Monday however I don't think she's will be strong enough to start her chemo. Her family Dr. is also helping. I just wondered if anyone else had had this type of problem.
