My SIL was diagnosed with stage 1A1 adeneocarcinoma of the cervix in April of last year. She had a radical hysterectomy and was doing great until yesterday. She was sent by her oncologist to have routine CT scan done just to make sure everything was in the right place and the radiologist found a 4.5 cm "mass" in a lymph node. Her oncologist thinks that it might not be a metastatic tumor but it may just be an ovarian cyst. She goes for an MRI tomorrow to get further clarification.
My questions are:
Wouldn't they know if it was a cyst right away?
What is her prognosis if it is a metastatic tumor and what are her treatment options?
Is it common for a tumor like this to grow so quickly in a patient with such a early stage primary cancer?
Any info you could give would be appreciated!
Trish
