Hey there everyone. I'm a Scottish gal who just moved to the USA 2 months ago for a teaching exchange. I had a mole removed in Scotland just before I left and was reassured it was just routine. However, two weeks ago I found out the mole sample was sent off for further analysis and it turns out that I have a melanoma (my poor Mum had to break the news over skype). I'm going to get more skin removed on Monday and hopefully that will be the end of it (well I hope so since my insurance company is refusing to pay for my treatment as they consider it a pre existing condition even though I had no idea my sample was being sent off for further analysis - gotta love the insurance system here lol).
The basic point of this is that I'm a big believer in food and exercise to beat anything and have found lots of conflicting advice on the internet about what my diet should be like to help me ensure this never happens again. I was hoping some of you guys would be able to give me some advice (I've read through some of the posts and you guys seem really well versed in this).
To be honest I feel a bit alone. My family is over 3000 miles away and I'm really playing everything down so they don't freak out. It would be nice to get some advice from people that understand what I'm going through.
I know that I definately have a melanoma and on monday I am getting over 2 centimeter diameter skin/flesh removed. I'm taking it that this means that I really need to look after myself now. I'm pretty healthy (lots of fruit and veggies but a sweet tooth and an obsession with plantain chips {I lived im Africa for a while}). I go to the gym a few times a week. But what can I do to boost my immune system?
I'm sorry if I'm babbling a wee bit here but I'm a tiny wee bit stressed!
I know alot of you will have heard all this before but I'm the first person in my family this has happened to so I need a bit of help.
If you got this far thank you for reading and thank you for your support.
A wee scared Scot x :D
