I just found this web site and am thankful it's here... I'm confused and hoped someone might be able to give me their opinions:

Here is my complicated situation and then my need for your insight. In Feb. 2001 it was found that I had enlarged lymph nodes in my chest. I went on to have a thoatic biopsy to see if I indeed had lymphoma. It came back at that time that I had Sarcoidosis. I faithfully followed up with it and had yearly chest x rays and cat scans. But, five years ago, I decided why bother if there was no cure, so I never went back.

Fast forward to 2009. I have type 2 diabetes which right now we are working on getting under control even with meds. So during this time, something told me that I needed to see if I could have the sarcoid checked. I had a chest x ray that was clear....then I had a cat scan in July. Now, also for about 2 years my blood work has came back as low in Lymphocytes (sp) and WBC has been low..... my platelets are low. The report on the cat scan says: Extensive mediastinal lymphadenopathy is noted apparently related to known sarcoidosis. Possibility of lymphoma cannot be excluded based on this examination alone. Lung fields and hilar regions are unremarkable. 2. Enlarged left axillary lymph node is also noted with a diameter of 17mm.

Does the above info warrent for me to have a repeat thoratic biopsy to again find out what is going on?

Thanks in advance,
Dandee

I would at the very least, discuss this with an oncologist. CT scans are remarkably accurate.

Good luck...Don B

hi dandee39

I agree with Don that this is something to be discussed with your doctor. My impression is that it would not be necessary to do a thoracic biopsy as one could be done on the axillary lymph node, but once again a frank discussion with your doctor is warranted.

Good luck
