Hi there,

I've woken up this morning and my arm is swollen and pale. I have taken ibuprofen now for two days, but with no difference. I'm now starting to think that this could be a blood clot or something......I'm probably just being stupid though because the pain is in my bone, not my vessels. It might just be a reaction that my arm is having to the pain, by swelling. I'll wait and see what happens.

Anyway, other than that I am just feeling tired. I've got an appointment with the doctor tomorrow in the morning so I'll discuss this all with him, and then I'll post back with what is happening - just incase anyone in future has these symptoms.

See you guys soon.

Hey guys!

I thought I had already written it, but they have postponed my appointment for the Hickman line, because I am likely to be neutropenic today, and so they have re-scheduled it for Friday morning.

I had an appointment with the haematologist today. He read my lung function measurements and graph. He said that there are two indications that the bleomycin has started to affect my lungs. The first was the amount of gas that was measured and what it contained (there's something called KH8 or something????) He said that it is lower than normal. The areas of the lungs that carry the oxegen through the walls of the lungs, and also into the bloodstream are not working to the level they should be. He sent me for another chest x-ray and so I have to wait for the report to be written about that.

I'm not having the bleomycin again this week. Which I suppose is a mixture of a good thing, but a bad thing as well. It means I am now relying on the other 3 chemo's to do their jobs to the full!

Tomorrow is my birthday - and I am going for a PET scan! Laughing I'm dreading them trying to find a vain! Thsi is going to be ONE LONG DAY. The PET scanner is in a hospital on the other side of London, and last time I had to go, I was there for over 4 hours. Travelling to and fro also takes up another 2 or 3 hours.

My arm is feeling better today, it just hurts on/off for about 10 or 15 minutes at a time, but it is easing - what a relief!

So.............until next time.............

Anne of Green Gables!

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Zakia, you can have my place anytime, don't worry, I don't need it! Laughing

The machine stopped working half way through my scan, but they ended up getting it working again, so that was good........I didn't want to think that I was injected with radiation for nothing! Laughing

I will get the results in a few days. Trouble is, my phone has been cut off because I haven't paid my bill! I don't know how the nurse is going to contact me if she needs to talk to me. Anyway, I just have to see what I can do in this situation. My poor sister! I owe her so much money. Never mind, something will come up soon.

I now have a sore throat, cough, and ulcers are starting in my mouth so I'm trying to get better quickly before my line goes in on Friday. My stomach also seems to be getting larger. I don't know why. It is actually getting on my nerves because I look fat and my trousers don't fit me any more. I only have one pair that close now, and they are cutting into me when I close them, so I have to go out and buy granny trousers with elastic at the waist! Laughing

hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Hi aisha1

Bloating could be the cortisone. Also you can never discount constipation especially with your type of chemo it is a very common complaint and a source a much distress to ABVD recipients.

I went from 78 kgs to 80 kgs during chemo. After chemo I blew up to 94 kgs Exclamation I actually have elastic pants that expand in all the right places Laughing I found wearing black helps Laughing Laughing Laughing Actually I'm a bit of a goth and have been the man in black for many years now (since 2000) Very Happy but it is seriously slimming, well except from side on Very Happy

RE constipation eat apples......lots of them and it will never be an issue...besides apples are scrummy as

Hey!

I've never had a neuclear scan, so I don't know what that is. It sounds pretty similar to the PET scan though. PET scan, you have to lie down and not move but it's not too bad. They inject you with a radioactive tracer and soem glucose (cancer loves glucose!) and you are on a bed. No straps, or restraints, you just lie there.

Maybe there are too many calories in my chemo! Laughing Laughing Laughing I am going to read the label next time!

I have to prepare myself for my line tomorrow and see what happens after that. This is a bit scary, especially because I will be awake for this! Ahhhhhhhh!!

I have to get going. Today is my sister's birthday. Yeah, I know.........we are only 2 days apart! Very Happy We often have a joint celebration (just small with family.

From now on I will be the woman in black, but will take a deep breath in when I turn to the side Very Happy

Aisha.

Well.........

I have a hickan line. They inserted it today and also have given me my chemo through it today. The people down in radiology were really nice. After the local anaesthetic, I only felt pain twice during the proceedure, and they just gave me more anaesthetic. They have made 2 insertions. One in my neck and one at the side of my chest, where the line emerges.

The cut in my neck is leaking quite a bit, but had already been changed, and is still leaking, even though it has stiches. It is also more painful than the on ein my chest. It hurts to laugh or cough or sneeze. I might take some pain killers.

Now that's all over and done with, I feel much better. It feels like a relief to know that bloods and chemo will be easier on me.

When I cam eout and back onto the medical day unit, another guy was going upstairs for one as well. I spoke to him briefly and he said that he also has Hodgkins. He has had 6 months of chemo (standard stuff like I have had) but he is in for some more intensive stuff, 12 hours a day for 4 days a week because his ABVD hasn't worked as well as it should have. That shut me up because he is also having stem cell transplant after this strong chemo they are giving him for 3 months! Hope that doesn't happen to me or anyone else. You need balls of steel for that kind of proceedure!

I'm so tired. I need to go to bed now and have a long sleep. Feeling a bit sick but sleep should sort that out.

Me.

Hi,

I'm still here. I have just been a bit busy and tired. Had lots of sorting out to do and my children have a school holiday next week so I am sending them to Scotland with my sister for a week so that they don't have to sit around the house all the time that they are on holiday.

I have to go but I will post back soon. I'm not feeling too well lately. I think the chemo must be really working now. My hair is falling out a lot as well.

Talk to you guys soon.

Aisha.

hi aisha1

3 days since you last posted , I hope you are feeling a litttle better. Don't worry to much soon this will all be a distant memory. I had another look at survival rates for HL in people your age and the figures are amazing, you will definitely be in remission after this. HL survival rates are the best of all cancers Very Happy

Hope you feel good enough to let your fans know how you are getting on Smile

Cheers
