Hey, I am a 22 year old female and I have had this painless lump on the back of my neck for like a while now (at least a couple yrs). I'm pretty sure it's a lymph node. I never really thought anything of it until my son got a swollen lymph node (the dr said he is not worried about it at all. yay!), and I started looking up info. I came across lymphoma symptoms and realize I have like all of them!

I have night sweats, sweats during the day, fatigue (I can sleep like 2 days straight, and then someone usually forces me to get up), weight loss, itchiness, and pain & swelling in the lymph nodes after I drink alcohol. I also have light-headedness; not sure if that's even related.

I have not lost THAT much weight, but I'm concerned because I wasn't trying to lose any. I avoided the scales for like months, because I was pretty sure I had gained weight, and when I finally had to get weighed I saw the scale and was like "huh?" Anyway, I lost about 10lbs in the past 5 months.

Oh and my lymph node is confusing me!!!! (it's an occipital lymph node... I'm pretty sure... right by my hairline slightly to the left from the middle of my neck) Up until today, it was hard and didn't move. Now today it's fricking moving??!!! Like barely, but it does move to the left a tiny bit. It still feels like it's stuck on something below the skin, though.

AND then when I put my head forward, like looking down, it is hard as a rock & doesn't move. So I don't know if I was only feeling it with my head down before or what? But I would think that I have felt it with my head in a normal position before, you know? Is it possible for them to change? Oh and my bf measured it yesterday & its like 3/8 of an inch x 3/8in. i don't know what that is in centimeters. he only had a inches ruler.

Ok, I'm babbling. Basically, I'm just wondering what symptoms you presented with, what you think of my symptoms, etc... thanks for any responses!! =)

Oh, and I have a doctor appt Tuesday, and I am way scared that the doctor is going to tell me it's nothing, and just disregard it!!!! And I am shy and I don't know how to like get my point across that something IS wrong with me. Any advice?

TIA

Edit:
Oh, I totally forgot!! About 3 wks ago, this much smaller lump showed up above the one that's been there for a while. It is definitely hard & not moving. But I think it is from a wisdom tooth, except that my tooth is on the right & this is on the left. But I really don't think the tooth was even infected, I'm just thinking maybe they're related.

Hi kxoxo

Sorry to hear of your disturbing symptoms and sorry they are causing you so much distress.

You have done the right thing in seeking the advice of a doctor, please don't worry about what he/she will say you can cross that bridge when you get to it. It is unlikely that your doctor will dismiss your symptoms as nothing and send you on your way.

You really need to relax a bit, nothing is going to progress markedly in the few days you have until you see the doctor so you need to get things into perspective and stop worrying. Do yourself a big favor and stay away from internet sites trying to diagnose yourself, you will acheive nothing other than ramping up your angst.

We are always here to help but you must also realise that we are not doctors, even if we were it would not be possible to answer your questions with definitive answers over the 'net. We can give support as all of us have dealt with cancer at a very personal level.

Get back to us with the results of your doctors visit, if that is your wish, and we will do our best to support you.

Good luck and don't worry Smile

Hey, thanks for replying!!

Yeah, I really do need to calm down. I have been on the internet like non-stop since Tuesday.

Is it even possible to have lymphoma without a malignant lymph node?? (i'm guessing mines not since it started moving) LIke how would they confirm that if they have nothing to biopsy or whatever?

Anyway, I think I'm gonna let it go till Tuesday, because I'm just like neglecting everything else in my life.

I'll let yall know what happens Tuesday!

And if it's not lymphoma, I'm just scared about what ELSE it can be?!?!?! My symptoms aren't healthy =(

Sorry I ramble so much. I'm gonna go watch TV... thanks for helping

Hi kxoxo

There is lymphatic tissue all over the body, so it doesn't have to be a lymph node. My lymphoma was found in my colon; my doctor never noticed any abnormalities in my lymph nodes.

Hope your troubles are benign and resolved soon!

Hi kxoxo

As joepet pointed out you have nodes all over the body some deep inside and they can be enlarged with or without any symptoms. But I must stress lymphoma is rarely a cause of enlarged nodes.

Good luck with the doctors visit.

Hey, I went to the doctor today. He did not seem very concerned. He didn't even look at my lymph node!!! All he did was listen to my chest... wtf. He ordered blood work. I think he suspects something with the thyroid. He didn't say much else.

He did not ask me to make a follow-up appt. I guess I'll call & get my results whenever they tell me & proceed from there.

I have medicaid, so I can't get a 2nd opinion unless I pay out of pocket or he gives me a referral, which is dumb.

He gave me sleeping pills b/c I said I have trouble getting to sleep/staying asleep. Even though I also said I can sleep a couple days in a row... I don't think I'll be taking them.

I guess there isn't much I can do right now. I am not obsessing as much & I'm not losing my mind over it. I will keep y'all updated though.

So what has happened then?

I'm intrigued to know because my doctor only said that my blood was showing signs of 'FIGHTING SOMETHING'?????

Please tell me what your doc said.
