Hi Joepet

Well it should be over now and it all should be behind you Smile I hope all went as planned and you didn't have to wait any longer. You should pick up pretty quick from here.

RE the stem cells...they do harvest then they treat it with drugs to kill any cancer cells so remission is not necessary....I don't know what order it comes in whether they do the stem cells first or the DHAP and I don't really care at this point. My nodes are still up but there has been no real change in the size so I am still not to bothered and will hold off till June unless they go beserk.

Anyway mate welcome to the ranks of cancer survivors you finally made it. Watch out for cars when you cross the road Wink

Not quite all behind me...still taking the predsinone until Monday. Next meeting with the doc is April 9th, when I'll get blood test and determine schedule for the final scans to see if I'm NED, probably in mid-April.

Re: stem cells, I thought the point was that the cancer had to be out of the body before they wiped out your bone marrow with the superchemo and replaced it via the stem cells? I guess they can harvest the stems cells beforehand, but I assume they wouldn't put them into you until you were clean of the cancer?

Hi Joe

Well the worst of it is over Smile Just one more cortisone crash to put up with !

They can also harvest stem cells from the blood, very clever they are Smile The prof did mention I would get both if it came back which prompted my quick search the other day where I found out about the harvest and treatment with drugs, but as I don't know for sure, and this can be a false alarm, I am not going to delve any deeper than what I have done so far. No point in stressing for what could be nothing I reckon.

You are going to pick up very quickly from here, but you still need to be careful about catching colds etc and there won't be much point to getting any vaccinations for a while until your B cell system recovers. The vaccinations won't hurt you they just won't work.

Stick around if you can , but if you don't all the best mate, you fought the good fight and its been great having you around. Good luck and enjoy many more trips around the Sun

For me there's always the arm inflammation that kicks in about a week after the chemo. Last time was particularly bad so I'm not looking forward to this one, but at least I only used the right arm this time, so the damage should be more limited.

I'm not as optimistic as you, so I won't believe this is over until the final scans say I'm in remission. Anyway, I plan to stick around to see us through the five year complete remission period, at which point we need to find an acceptable way to celebrate. Laughing

Ha...my last day, and I can't find my anti-nausea meds!

Oh well...I guess I'll just have to "gut" it out.

Four hours past the last of the preds and I still feel fine.
I guess Day 6 is easier than Day 2 would have been.

Yeah I've managed now to save two of the Ondan by using ginger pills and also mint tea.

Figure my last round will be a freebie then $90 saved.

I'm finding lots of small meals with lots of tea and honey seems to keep me settled - trying to settle on a cookie to much with the tea tho toast is doing fine.

Joe - seriously - the power of your body to help with this is incredible....imagine every night before you sleep your body clearing away all this - imagine the positive outcome you want to see.

Give you body complete permission without worry - use some sort of symbolism or imagery that you are comfortable and positive about, flying or diving in the sea - friendly animals that give you power and confidence.

I'm a pragmatic pilot who runs a tech company and as far away from the new age woo as you can get but I know from flying training in particular how powerful and important imagining the outcomes you want are in moving forward.

You are training to fight this condition to the complete finish- that's what you want - use the tools we all have and confidence is just flat out critical....

Wind that imagination and postivism up.

Go watch Rocky or something Rolling Eyes

BTW upbeat music and laughter can play a role too. .....

Ah...so the pills are a monetary issue with you. I thought that you just didn't like taking them. In Japan, pills are dirt cheap (perhaps cheaper than dirt?). My 100 preds, anti-nausea meds, and the doctor's consultation where I get them cost about 1500 yen ($15 US) a pop. The price we pay for that is that 75% of hospitals are in the red, and those in the depopulating rural areas are closing at a frightening rate.

I have an aunt who was just diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (nose cancer). She is not insured, and is trying to get some money together so she can have surgery. Honestly, the American system is great for developing treatments, but for treating actual people, I am so glad to be in Japan.

It's more principal than money - I can easily afford it but rather have a steak dinner out with my daughter than pop an expensive pill I don't need.
All else cost zero except some tylenol 3 for my surgery which was cheap.

Now about that visualation and confidence...... Wink

Hi Joe and singledad

Just to make you all jealous my pills ( top o the range new meds) cost ....nothing, zilch, Nada. In fact every thing the chemo, the antinausea meds, the neulasta injections, the services of the head of hematology in the royal adelaide, a professor no less, and the second in charge as my other doctor, all the CT and PET scans and Blood work cost me about $0.00

I do pay a surcharge in my tax for all of this 1.5% of my annual wage.

That's why we all sat G'day as a greeting in Australia, because every day is a good day.
