I am 22 years old and found out about 2 weeks ago my pap came back abnormal. My family doctor set me up with a GYN very quickly. The GYN did a colpo and took 2 biopsies.
I know I shouldn't be so freaked out until I get the results back, but I can't get it out of my mind. 7-10 days is a very long time to have to sit back and wait. My pap results were LSIL and the GYN didn't think he would have to do any biopsies but he ended up doing two.. one of which he was really worried about. I don't even know what I'm trying to ask. What did you all do to stop worrying while you waited? I can't even sleep right now. |

Hi CountryBumpkin,
We have all been there. Waiting for results can be one of the worst parts.
There isn't any magic secret to make this easier. What i did was just try to keep myself occupied to keep my mind off of thinking about it. I watched TV, played video games, did whatever to not think about it.
Its different with every person, but all I can recommend for sure is to try to stay off the computer. Google-ing and researching can often do more harm than good, it will just add stress to the plate.
And as for your biopsies, we are all hoping for the best and let us know what the results are, good or bad _________________ Stage 1B1 Adenosquamous Carcinoma of the Cervix.

Rockstar,
When reading through these posts I read something about you being really young for this. If you don't mind me asking how old were you when you were diagnosed? I'm really bad about staying off the internet. After I heard I had an abnormal pap I went online and researched as much as I could. This was really good for me because when I went in for the colpo I actually knew what the doc was talking about.. my mom on the other hand was completely confused.. LSIL..HSIL.. HPV it gets pretty confusing. It's been 2 days since the biopsies so I guess only 5-8 more days until I know....
Does anybody know if cervical cancer is genetic? Eveything I have been reading only talks about getting cervical cancer through HPV. I'm not trying to say I'm an angel and there is no way I have HPV cause its a big probability that I do, I'm just wondering because my great aunt had CC when she was about my age and her mom (my great grandma) also had it. Thankfully they were both survivors of the cancer.
Thank you so much for your help! |

Yes, I was on the young side. In May I was diagnosed when was 20, a few months before my 21st birthday. But I am proud to say that I am a very healthy and happy survivor.
It can get really confusing with the different terms and tests and everything. That's how the internet can be really helpful too.
There isn't any conclusive evidence that shows that cervical cancer is genetic. We do know that people with family members who have had cancer are more likely to develop it, but it isn't a guarantee.
one thing that's good (if there is anything good) about LSIL and cervical cancer is that we know how it progresses and moves. It is predictable and slow moving. Rarely is it a fast moving disease.

I am going to wait with you girl!
I am actually waiting just to get a papsmear. I have had 2 paps in the last 6 years and both of them have come back abnormal. I never had any follow up appointments. Now 6 years later I am trying to get pregnant. I check my cervix every month around the time I will ovulate. I do that so I can see if I am ovulating (it is normal to check your cervix if you are trying to conceive) This month my cervix is grossly enlarged and barrel shaped.
I am waiting with you on your results. |
