hi everyone, i'm sorry about this note, yet my father was kinda forced into saying yes to surgery, the neurosurgeon hardly spoke to me about (what i know now was a GBM4), he simply spoke to my father, who had just turned 84 one month before he passed...I cannot say enough that I was completely ignored in this whole process, he had many, many deficits, yet he was rushed into surgery in a blink of an eye, only to live for a month after this big surgery, the neuro acted as it was nothing, (the surgery)
it still bothers me deeply and i only have his office phone number! he was quickly sent back to the snf, and also quickly sitting in a jeri chair in P.T of which i took him out of there and got him back to his room and in bed! (i was down there and could not believe he was in P.T just so they could make money off a dying man!) Oh boy, was it all looking like they took an old man and operated, got the money, and i have NO peace of mind.
Any suggestions? I'm haunted, it's been 4 months since he passed and I feel like i was sidelined and just want some answers.
thanks
and god bless you all!

is everyone hiding? i am so very sorry that i posed a question while others are fighting for their lives. i just want to know if i have any rights, you are all keeping the fight up. amen...i just feel so deeply that my father was thrown into a surgery of what the neurosurgeon made money on my father, and his one and only daughter, suffered greatly in those last days.........i really need closure and some info of how i can obtain it.........that is all..
yet, i do not know which way to turn, i trust this website and would never tell, do i have a right to his medical records? and who would i call?????
where do i start, so my life can start over again! I feel that i was sidelined, and my dad always, until this all came about, they did him in for the money, and i have unanswered questions. no lawsuit involved, just a peace of mind.
love you all and keep on fighting!
simply lost and keep trying to get a decent night's sleep after the fact!

It's really tough to answer that. You can certainally ask the dr office for the records, but unless you were his medical power of attorney, I don't think they have to give them to you. Good luck!

Hi tawny,

You are in a very complicated situation for which I have few answers and more questions. I believe that if you are the executor of your father's estate, that gives you the right to get his medical records. However, unless you can read and understand medical language, I suggest that you take them to someone who can help you. If your father's files are anything like my father's, be ready to be overwhelmed by the volume.

I do have some rhetorical questions for you to think about. What is it the you need? What is it that you hope to find? What are you afraid you might find? I hope you find the peace it seems you are looking for.

thank you all for your responses! yes, i was poa over his medical, the only answer i got from the surgeons (who kept themselves very hidden) and this main pd at the snf, was he had a glio....that's it! a very large aggressive one, and i'm espcially wondering of pain meds he was on during the last few months of his life jim, cause his pd told me he would put him on a good pain management program, the same as Hospice would do, and i believed him.
Well, then why when hospice finally came to see my father, they slowed his resps down and told me it could be a day or a week, i was thoroughly shocked, he passed the next morning, hospice came to the rescue at 8pm the night before.
what was going on with this whole scenario with his pd? too proud to give him up to hospice? i do think so
thanks and God Bless

Although there has been a greater emphasis on pain control over the last 10-15 years than before, there are still some doctors who do not take pain as seriously as others. The are too afraid that higher levels of pain medications such as morphine will reduce respiration and that will just speed the up the patients death. While it is true that morphine can decrease respiration, it certainly can be given in a safe manor.

It is the same thing with hospice. While most modern doctors in the West know the value of hospice workers, some still think calling them is a sign that they are giving up and maybe even failing.
