My husband was rushed to casualty(ER) earlier this week.
He had stomach pain, couldnt breath, swollen face and neck. later his feet and arms, but not fingers. Previous to this for a while, the stomach pain has been there for over six weeks, the breathlessness for around a few weeks on and off. It got worse recently when he laid flat.
He smokes, or did untill he was admitted to hospital.
While in ER, they suspected the pancreas was causing the pain. Among being examined for the prostate and others they took blood from his wrist(main artery)and other bloods. they did a Chest and stomach xray. The xray showed an enlarged heart but explained that no fluid would show up in an xray. they admitted him to a heart ward and kept him on a moniter, which showed no abnormalities. The next day they gave him a full CT body scan. the day after they said His heart had failed on the right side and was too weak to pump the fluids around properly so it was settling in his stomach, lungs and elsewhere. He is having injections to correct it, and tommorrow they are putting all the medication in tablet form so he can come home. He has to go back regular for check ups.
The NHS hospital he is in is brilliant, a leading heart hospital, and i could not fault the care.
But im still worried. Would it still be likely that he has lung cancer and they couldnt detect it because of fluid build up? Im still not convinced he is in the clear. He has had a cough for a while, not continueously, we put it down to smoking, he lost his voice for a couple of days last week, but has no problems now. No weight loss, in fact the opposite. No back pain, but does hold his chest when he coughs.
I would appreciate your comments and i have been visiting this forum all week, and have been in awe of the braverey of the people posting on here. My thoughts are with you and your families x

Welcome Worried
Sorry to hear all that your husband is going through. I first had heart problems before cancer, but the one has nothing to do with the other. I would not begin to tell you that he has cancer or that he does not. I was told by 3 doctors I did not have cancer, they were wrong. But the symptoms right now don't seem close, it will take some time to resolve the problems right now with your husbands heart. Cancer right now should not be the big worry, lets get his heart working right.
