Hi, After my hysterectomy and tentatively being Cancer free for now, I want to get a tattoo of a lavender color cancer awareness ribbon with blue butterfly wings.

Has anyone else gotten tattoos after they were diagnosed to commemorate their survival? or gotten one in the memory of a loved one?

I love the idea!! Two of my kids had them done in memory of their father. Both have his initials incorporated into the design, but they are not noticeable. Only they know (and other family members) where the initials are in the design and what they mean. My daughter designed hers and my son had one edited/adjusted to create the initials. They wanted them to be a private way of remembering their Dad. She also had hers put in an inconspicuous spot.

I'm still debating whether this is something I would do. Cool I'd probably go off the wall with some big, broken, bleeding heart with a ribbon and his name on it, plastered on my chest and look like a ninny. LOL Laughing Then.... there is the issue of saggage with time. Rolling Eyes (Not a real word, but certainly a real occurrence!)

Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

I think it's a great idea. I have had a client that had her right breast removed, and she decided to have a full breast size tattoo, over the scaring. It looked amazing. Big massive Lillies and forget me nots. It was beautiful.

I have recently had surgery to remove my prostate and while recuperating I thought it would be a good idea to have a tattoo.
Although I previously thought they were pretty tasteless, I wanted to create awareness in others that I contracted prostate cancer, survived with early detection, and others can do the same.
It's about 4cm high and on my calf, just above the sock line where it can be seen, and hopefully will get the attention of the inquisitive.
I selected the blue logo of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, had '09' placed on the wide part of the ribbon and then a slight drop shadow. Looks darn good!
Very Happy Smile Laughing

Great idea ! Why dont you post pics to your tattoo ?

I have always dreamed about having tattoo, but im so tasteless cant decide which would be the perfect one for me. Its something permanent , so i should do the right choice.
Also is it painful ?

Your design sounds like it would be good. If I knew how to post a pic I would but I have the Prostate Council ribbon in blue with the year '09' incorporated in the base. It didn't hurt, it felt more like the skin being scraped.
