Hi, my friend was diagnosed with endometrial cancer about two months ago. Before the surgery, the best they could gather from biopsy and MRI was that it as a late stage I cancer. She had a hysterectomy about two weeks ago and we got the pathology reports yesterday. It showed that a cyst on the ovary was also cancerous and it showed carcinoma in the aortic lymph node, one of 19 they removed and checked. It is now staged at IIIC. We haven't been able to talk to the doctor yet because he's on vacation, but what we hoped would be fairly manageable and survivable now seems extremely scary. She's also 28 years old. What does this new development mean in terms of treatment and prognosis? Any thoughts or references would help. Thank you.

Dear Moon

Thanks for posting. We have some information on endometrial cancer here: http://canceronline.com/taxonomy/term/18 (this is our sister site)

Anyway, in terms of prognosis it is unfortunately not as good as a stage I. She will probably need other forms of treatment, such as chemotherapy.

best regards,
Leo

Dear Moon,

Sorry to hear of the diagnosis. I just joined this forum. It seems like the forum administrator is very helpful. FYI: if youre looking for more emotional support there is a good support group at CancerCare.org.

I was dx with adenocarcinoma of the uterine endomtrium 4/03. I had a complete radical hyst. I too had lymph node involvement. In addition to surgery I had radiation (29 sessions) and 6 months of chemo. I got into a clinical trial, I believe it was GoG 184. I was on a good protocol that made the chemo easier to manage. My chemo was cisplatin and adromyicin. For nausea, Zofran works well. I have a 50/50 diagnosis for 5 year survivol. I'm one year in remission, checks every 3 months.

Im 47, so Im relatively young for this disease. It was misdiagnosed several times, since the main symptom is vaginal bleeding...at age 46 they thought it was just peri menopausual irregular bleeding or fibriods. A biopsy is the only way to really find out. I urge every woman with irregular bleeding to insist on a biopsy. This cancer is easy to treat in early stages, but more difficult later.

With good doctors and good support, you can make it.

Best of luck to you,
msjudi

Hi moon.I was just wondering how they diagnosed her.I am going to my doctor right now I had a ct done feb.21 and it showed 2 ovarian cysts one on each ovary.I have had a history of cysts since age 17 I am now 29.But also on the ct they seen a solid mass in the uterine cavity.I took all that to my gyny today he said he did not feel anything in my uterus and said that 1 year ago there was nothing in there I at that time had a ultrasound.1yr ago. but now this. he said he didn't think it was a fibroid.Like the radiologist report said. He ordered a hyterogrma to look inside.I was just wondering if any of this happend to her?
