Hi everyone, this is Joel's wife, Bonnie and I want to give you an update on Joel. He went in for surgery Thursday and the surgery ended up taking 8 hours, instead of the aprox. 3-4 hours they told us it would be. They had one complication with the catheter, causing him to lose quite a bit of blood.

The prostate was taken out successfully but they had another problem. Apparently, the surgeon cut the uritor, which is between the bladder and the kidneys; they had to put in a stent. As of now, he is doing okay.

He is still in the the hospital and will probably be there until Monday or Tuesday. He lost a lot of blood; so he had a blood transfusion today. His pain, which was caused mainly from an umbilical cord hernia that he got repaired during the surgery, isn't as bad today as it was yesterday.

Joel wanted me to write to you and tell you that he is hanging in there and will write to you when he comes home. I will keep you posted on his recovery.

~Bonnie

Bonnie and/or Joel- I hope that things are rapidly improving. Sounds like quite an ordeal. Best wishes for a quick recovery. Sounds the worst is over.

Bonnie, this is Joel's friend from San Diego, Chris (aka, Can't Explain). I'm so sorry to hear he had the surgical complication, the subsequent blood loss ,and extended stay in the hospital. Let him know I'm pulling for him and remind him of the goal: clear margins and a "cure" that I'm sure will be in his pathology report.
I'm a week ahead of him (ie, surgery a week ago Wednesday) and talked with him the night before he went in. He such a thorough guy and was so prepared for anything, even so, I'm sure this must have been a real blow to him.
Fingers crossed and prayers offered to you and Joel (and the whole family).
Chris B
