Hello All,

Almost 3 years after diagnosis of a Oglioastrocytoma grade 3 some new tumor growth is happening. Some history: 80% removal April 2007 left her very weak on the right side in and out of a wheelchair since. 30 whole brain radiation treatments summer 2007. 18 months Temodar ending in Dec 2008.

In the 90 days since the last MRI tumor has grown to 1 CM with neurological problems, considerable more weakness and communication difficulties.

The doctor has ordered a restart of Temodar <Edit>450mg starting tonight. This will go for 2 months with another MRI at that time. Questions for anyone who has experience here are:

Is 450mg hitting it hard enough as it is very rapidly growing?
Is ther anything that could be added to the Temodar to increase it's effectivity?

God Bless,

Cliff

Recurrance of a tumor is very serious. I would question just throwing more temodar at the tumor. You may want to consider getting into a clinical trial. Is your wife being seen at a major brain tumor center? If not I'd try to get to one for a second opinion.

My thoughts are with you,

Arleen

Hi,

Yes it is serious. I guess the theory is that she did well on Temodar and had no growth for 2 years. The plan is Temodar for two cycles then another MRI. At which time the descision will be made to continue or change to Avastin. We do not have insurance to go anywhere we want and have been turned down at other centers. The doctor we see is from UCLA and seems pretty good but these are the things I need to know.

Thanks,

Cliff

My understanding is that the dose of Temodar is geared to a patient's body weight. From what I have read etc., UCLA is very highly regarded. I think the fact they are willing to try other treatments like Avastin after only a few months is a positive sign. For example, where we are from in Canada, Avastin is not even widely available yet.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
