I went in to find out the results of my PET scan, I had last week, and there is a spot of concern on the outside of my colon. It could be an infection, possibly from being torn during the colonoscopy, I had 2 weeks ago, or it could be cancer.

My blood work was normal, so that was a good sign.

If it is cancer, my oncologist said that would be of serious concern.

They are going to do a small incision later this week and look around. If it is a tear, they will close it and we will monitor the situation. If not, they will take a biopsy and I will find out Tuesday if I have cancer again. I do not want to hear those three words “You have cancer” again. Once in a life-time is enough.

I got to stay positive and take it one step at a time.

Sending good thoughts and hugs to help you get through the wait. Let's pray it's "something completely different."

I talked to the surgeon yesterday. He is going to cut me open and look around next Friday.

If he finds nothing, which he said he is expecting, then I will be an outpatient. If he finds something, he will cut it out for a biopsy and I will be in the hospital for a few days to recover.

If it is cancer, I am prepared to fight it as before. At least this time I won't have to do chemo and deal with a colostomy at the same time. That was really not fun.

I am recovering from the exploratory surgery. Yesterday I talk to my Oncologist.

It is cancer, but the good news is that it is not new cancer. This is the same cancer as before. It has been there the whole time as a few microscopic cells. This means the chemo kept them from growing for 1.5 years. We just needed to fight it a little harder to destroy all the cancer cells.

If this was new cancer just now popping up, that would be very bad news. So this is a good thing.

So this is not a new fight and I am not starting over from scratch. I am just continuing the fight, but this time I will defeat it.

I will do chemotherapy every other week for a total of 12 treatments, like I did last time. I will start next week and if all goes well, I finish the week of Thanksgiving.

REB!!!!

I am so upset to read this news......you have fought so hard I can hardly bear to think of you having to go through the chemo again. This has really just blown my mind. I came on tonight as I just felt I needed to check up on everyone, I don't post too much anymore - trying to live life and forget the cancer terror....you know how it is.

My colonoscopy is due - it is one year since my surgery.

I haven't scheduled it yet - I've been afraid - now reading your news it brings the fear back. I shall pray for you REB - you gave me and others such support - we will all be here for you as you go back into battle. I know you won't give up - stay strong and please keep posting to let us know how you are doing. will you get the same drugs or a different type this time? Do you still have your port?

Hugs and Cheers

Hi Dulcimergal.

I understand what you are talking about. When I thought I was in remission, I checked this site maybe once a month. I also wanted to forget the cancer nightmare.

I pray you get good news. Are you going to get a PET scan? My colonoscopy came out clear, because the cancer is on the outside of the colon. My original tumor had spread to the outside of the colon.

I had gotten my chemo port removed back in November. I got it put back in yesterday. I am starting chemo in 2 hours.

so REB -

just re-read your update - I take it they did not cut this cancer out since it was on the outside of the wall? They are hoping more chemo will do the trick?

I would do that too - anything rather than have another colostomy..I hope your chemo trip went well, I guess it will take a week or two for any more side effects to show up. what can you expect this time around?

I have had clean CAT scans...but now it is time for my first colonoscopy since the diagnosis. My docs are still reluctant to do PET scans, do not seem to think it necessary since all my markers are good and the cat scans are clean.

If you remember - I renewed my catholic faith last year, God spoke and I listened....so I am praying a rosary for you, I will also light a candle for you when I get to church Sunday. Keep your spirits up - this sounds like just a few wild cells trying to scare us all.....!

Cheers
